Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of architecture that is said to bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to those who live in buildings that are designed according to its principles. The origins of Vastu Shastra can be traced back to the Hindu Vedas, the oldest scriptures of Hinduism.

Lord Shiva's Sweat and the Birth of Vastu Purush

According to the Matsya Purana, a fierce battle erupted between Lord Shiva and Andhakasura. Lord Shiva sweated a lot during the intense fight, and from that sweat came a powerful being named Vastu Purush Mandal. But this new being, Vastu Purush, was super hungry and wanted to eat everything!

Seeing this super-hungry Vastu Purush, the Devas got scared! They asked Lord Brahma for help. Brahma devised a plan, and together with the Devas, they pinned Vastu Purush face-down on the earth.

Brahma's Boon and the Origin of Vastu Shastra

Vastu Purush was pinned down on the ground and pleaded for mercy & promised to bring good luck to anyone who built their home the right way in exchange for a place to live. Brahma agreed and gave him the boon. He granted Vastu Purush a boon: to reside within every plot of land and be appeased through proper construction practices. In return, Vastu Purush would ensure peace and prosperity for the inhabitants.

And that's how Vastu Shastra was born, a special way of building houses!
